The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) released a notice on 15th May 2020, in order to strengthen the supervision of food quality and safety to protect the health of the public. Additional guidelines were specified to suppress illegal additions to; false publicity of; and illegal sales of special food such as solid drinks, tablet candy, substitute tea, etc.

The special rectification is aimed at companies that include the following terms in their name: biology, technology, medicine and nutrition. Other targets include food related operators such as elderly, maternal, infant and other health care stores and online sales channels.

The notice further specified illegal operations and behaviors such as, operating business beyond the business scope, implicit disease prevention, false publicity, illegal marketing, mix sales of normal food with special food etc.
